What's the BEST FREE program that checks multiple email accounts for you all at once like from Yahoo and Gmail?
if you use windows you will have one already installed. if you have XP or older versions it is 'Outlook Express" and if you use Vista, it is "Microsoft Mail' . Unfortunately, yahoo does not offer pop3 downloading of its emails , unless you have a paying (plus) account with them. However gmail, hotmail and most other free webmails offer pop3 protocol which you will need in order to use the programs i mentioned.
If you have Microsoft office installed on your computer, it comes with Mircosoft Outlook which is a lot better than the free outlook express.
Regarding, safety, i am not sure what you exactly mean, but i would say they are at least as safe as webmails, if not safer. Webmails have the advantage that they check your emails/attachments for viruses as soon as you open them, but you can still have that with email clients if you have an anti-virus installed that checks files on access.
One thing to note, if you decide to go the pop3 way, is to make sure you have the correct setting in your client on if you want it to keep the downloaded emails on your webmail servers or not.
